ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team lost to Texas Tyler 3-2 in Saturday's American Southwest Conference game.
The first score of the game came in the fourth minute from the Patriots' Jose Poo on a shot from the top of the box placed perfectly in the corner of the goal, assisted by Lucas Pereira.
The Cowboy answer came in the 59th minute, with the only goal better than a header off a corner, a double-header off a corner. Asa Robicheaux had the corner while Preston Hillis and Bobby Carlton used their heads to make the goal for the Cowboys, Hillis with the assist and Carlton with the goal.
After a yellow card, the Patriots scored off a free kick by Walter Castro who connected with Poo for his second goal of the night, making it 2-1 Texas Tyler. The Cowboys again answered with a free kick of their own in the 70th minute, off the leg of Carlton to the head of Gilbert Mugisha for the 2-2 equalizer.
Lucas Pereira made a nice run down the back line and found Winner Asi in close for the winning goal for Texas Tyler in the 86th minute.
Hardin-Simmons managed seven shots and four on goal, while the Patriots had 16 with seven on frame. This was a foul-heavy game, yet almost even, with a 13-12 mark in favor of HSU.
Trent Ivy had four saves in his effort at keeper, and Patriot goalie Giancarlo Ayanegui got his first start and win on the year with two saves.
HSU (0-8-1, 0-5 ASC) will return to action this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Louisiana College.
