Cowboys Fall to Sul Ross 3-2 in OT Thriller

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team fell 3-2 to Sul Ross State in overtime on Saturday night.

The back-and-forth match began with a nice pass from Abate Hennessy in close to Kiko Redondo, who scored the opening goal for the Cowboys in the fifth minute.

Nearing the end of the first half, the Lobos had two quick goals, at 32 and 34 minutes, by Luis Gonzalez and Eddie Rodriguez to take the lead.

Hardin-Simmons answered with an Asa Robicheaux goal from a corner by Brandon Sosa-Hernandez in the 41st minute to have the momentum just before half.

The game-ending goal came in overtime from Luis Gonzalez, winning it for Sul Ross 3-2.

The Cowboys had 16 shots in the contest with seven on frame. Sul Ross had 8 shots in the game and five on goal. Trent Ivy had a pair of saves in the loss and Frank Rodriguez, the Lobo keeper, had five.

The game saw a whopping 10 yellow cards given out, as well as 24 total fouls called. HSU had 10 corners on the night compared to just two by Sul Ross.

HSU (0-4-1) will return to action at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday at East Texas Baptist.
