ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team needed a win in the worst way after a 1-2-1 start to conference play and Frane Vidosevic lifted the Cowboys' spirits with a game-winning goal in the 107th minute of play to beat Belhaven 2-1 in double overtime.
Belhaven got on the board in the 15th minute on an own goal as the Cowboys deflected a ball into their own net.
Vidosevic then tied the game in the 24th minute when he buried a penalty kick.
Both teams had numerous chances throughout the rest of regulation and the overtime periods. HSU converted when Luis Castro served a perfect corner kick to the back post and Vidosevic finished it off for the win. It was his fourth goal of the season.
The Cowboys had 20 shots in the wide-open game and had nine on target. Belhaven had 18 shots and six on frame.
Trent Ivy recorded the win in goal as he had five saves in the game. Thomas Blake had seven saves for the Blazers.
HSU moves to 3-3-1 on the year and 2-2-1 in conference play. Belhaven is now 1-6-4 on the season and 1-4-1 in league play. HSU will host Louisiana College on Saturday at 3:30.
