Cowboys Win ASC Opener, 2-0, Over UT-Tyler
ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team beat Texas-Tyler 2-0 in the American Southwest Conference opener for both schools on Friday evening at the HSU Soccer Complex.

The match was halted in the 75th minute by lightning and the result is considered final.

The Cowboys got on the board with four seconds remaining in the first half when a foul was called in the box on a free kick. Tanner Coffin stepped up to bury the shot and give the Cowboys the halftime lead.

Aaron Henry scored in the 62nd minute for the Cowboys on an assists from Orlando Macedo. The shot came from the top of the box and he beat the keeper to the lower left corner.

The game was played back and forth and the Cowboys outshot the Patriots 11-8 and UTT had the advantage in shots on target 6-3.

Michael Vargas worked the shutout in goal with six saves. Giancarlo Ayanegui allowed two goals in 64:18 in the pipes.

HSU is now 2-2 on the year and 1-0 in ASC play. UT-Tyler fell to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. HSU will hosts the University of the Ozarks on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
