RICHARDSON, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team stood toe-to-toe with No. 2 Trinity in cold and wet conditions but in the end it was a Victor Araujo goal with :23 left in regulation that gave Trinity a 2-1 win on Saturday night in Richardson.
It stayed 1-1 through a tight, physical second half. Trinity outshot the Cowboys 21-8 in the game and 5-2 on target. Trinity had eight corner kicks and the Cowboys had seven.
Matt Cardone had one save for Trinity in goal and Michael Vargas had three saves for the Cowboys.
The game ended the career of the Cowboys' 11 seniors.
The Cowboys season begin with a 2-1 loss to Trinity on Sept. 5 and ended the same way. HSU closes its campaign at 9-5-2 and Trinity improved to 22-1. The Tigers will play Texas-Dallas in the next round.
