SEGUIN, Texas – Dedrick Strambler intercepted a Texas Lutheran pass with 1:27 to play to seal a 33-30 American Southwest Conference win at Bulldog Stadium on Saturday afternoon in Seguin.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Cowboys scored 1:31 into the second quarter when Landry Turner hit Devonte' Walker on a 30-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was no good and HSU led 6-0. After the teams traded possessions Walker muffed a punt to set up the Bulldogs.
Kyle Grona scored from four yards out on the first play after the turnover. After a quick three-and-out TLU went 57 yards in six plays and Chris Monroe scored on a 35-yard touchdown run on fourth down. Donavon Hailey blocked the PAT and TLU led 13-6.
HSU answered right back and Turner hit Xavier Jones on a 48-yard screen pass and run for a touchdown with 4:21 to play in the first half. The defense then forced a punt and the Cowboys went 98 yards in 10 plays for a touchdown. Jaquan Hemphill capped the drive with a spinning 29-yard touchdown run and again the PAT was no good making the game 19-13.
TLU added a 39-yard field goal from Tyler Hopkins at the halftime buzzer to make it 19-16. HSU pushed the lead to 26-16 when Turner hit Matthew Sandoval on a 29-yard touchdown pass.

TLU turned the ball over on downs on the next drive and then the Cowboys also had to punt on its next possession. Reese Childress, who never returned to the game at wide receiver after an undisclosed first-quarter injury, nailed a 52-yard punt under pressure.
The Bulldogs took over at their own 22-yard line and after a couple of first downs to start the drive, Dedrick Strambler stepped in front of a Grona pass and HSU was able to run out the clock.
Landry Turner was 28-for-43 for 324 yards and three touchdowns in his first game back in the lineup. Hemphill had 115 yards on 19 carries after missing last week with an ankle injury. Devonte' Walker had 11 catches for 125 yards.
