Jefferson is in his third season as an assistant coach for the Cowboys after a stellar playing career. 

He helped lead the Cowboys to the American Southwest Conference title as an assistant coach in 2017. HSU also went to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history. He also tutored first-team All-American Nathaniel Jack.

He was a two-time first-team All-ASC selection. He was also named to the all-ASC Tournament team four times, the only player in league history to accomplish that feat. He led the Cowboys to the ASC Tournament four times as a player and twice to the ASC Championship game. 

After his senior season he was named to the all-South region team by the NABC and 

He is among the all-time best HSU basketball players and ranks second all-time in scoring (1,625), third in rebounding (795), first in steals (240), fourth in assists (289) and seventh in blocked shots (67). He also is the all-time leader in free throws made (695) and is second in field goals made (546).

Jefferson has a bachelor's degree from Hardin-Simmons in criminal justice.
