RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team fell 88-74 to Texas Dallas on Saturday night at the UTD Activity Center.
Both teams came out of the locker room tight as could be expected. HSU did not make its first field goal until the 12:56 mark of the first half but it was still 11-7 UTD at that point. The Comets then exploded on an 11-2 run to take a 24-9 lead and eventually led 34-18.
The Cowboys were able to narrow the deficit to 38-32 before halftime with a 14-4 run.
HSU cut the deficit to four on a couple of occasions but a 13-2 run by the Comets midway through the second half pushed the lead out to 53-38 on back-to-back Curtis Allen 3-pointers.
The Cowboys cut it to single digits a couple of times but never got closer as the Comets shot 55 percent in the second half and sealed the game with a 22-of-24 performance at the foul line in the second half.
HSU struggled shooting hitting just 35.9 percent from the game, including 4-of-15 from 3-point range.
Tournament MVP Dimitrius Underwood led UTD with 24 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Curtis Allen hit six 3-pointers for 18 points and Jalen Weber added 14.
HSU closes the season with a record of 17-11 and UTD advanced to the NCAA Tournament with a mark of 24-4.
It was the final game of the careers of Cowboy seniors Hoeup, Terry and Ryan Chaney
