AUSTIN, Texas – Concordia used a late surge to beat Hardin-Simmons 87-80 in American Southwest Conference men's basketball action at the Concordia Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
The two teams battled back and forth in the first half and Joe Hoeup's 3-pointer with :07 left in the half tied the game at 37.
Chris Barrett gave the Cowboys a 61-57 lead with a 3-pointer with 10:33 to play. The game was tied at 75 when Detarrius Kirk gave Concordia the lead with a 3-pointer. Steven Quinn hit two free throws and Ronnie Hamilton a lay-up for the Tornados. Jalen Terry tied the game at 80 with 1:36 to play with a 3-pointer.
Concordia outscored the Cowboys 7-0 the rest of the way to take the win.
Joe Neal led Concordia with 20 points and 11 rebounds, but the Cowboys frustrated him to a 7-for-23 shooting night. Detarrius Kirk had 16 points for the Tornados.
HSU is now 9-8 on the year and 4-4 in ASC West action. Concordia improved to 8-9 and leads the ASC West with a 6-2 mark.
After a 10-game road trip, the Cowboys return home to the Mabee Complex on Thursday to host Howard Payne at 7:30 p.m.
