MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team completed a weekend road sweep with an 83-76 win at East Texas Baptist on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at Ornelas Gym in Marshall.
ETBU had an early 19-15 lead in the first half but the Cowboys used a 12-0 run to take a 27-19 lead with 7:01 to play in the half. The Cowboys were able to maintain the lead through halftime as the Cowboys took a 39-33 lead into intermission.
The Tigers used a 9-2 run to start the second half to trim the Cowboys' lead to 43-42 but freshman Steven Quinn had eight quick points to push the lead back to 53-47.
HSU was able to keep the Tigers away every time they came close and led 78-76 when Joe Hoeup buried a 3-pointer for the second straight game to seal the victory, this time with :12 seconds to play.
Chris Barrett led five Cowboys into double figures with 19 points against his former team. Jalen Terry had 14 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers in a key stretch in the second half when ETBU had cut the deficit to one point.
With the win, the Cowboys are tied atop the ASC West standings with a 4-2 mark after crossover play. HSU is 9-6 overall. ETBU fell to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The Cowboys will play at Mary Hardin-Baylor and Concordia next weekend to conclude a 10-game road trip.
