ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team got back on track with a 94-71 win over Belhaven in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Saturday afternoon.
HSU busted open a tight game with a 9-0 run late in the first half. Freshmen Kadon Lewis had seven of the nine and fellow freshman Neal Chambliss added the other two and it gave HSU a 32-21 lead with 3:02 to play in the half. The Cowboys led 35-27 at halftime.
In the second half, Belhaven chipped away at the Cowboy lead and cut it 49-47 with 13:18 to play before freshman Steven Quinn put the Cowboys on his back for a stretch. He scored 13 points over a six-minute stretch and HSU ballooned the lead out to 71-55 with 7:32 to play.
The Cowboys shot 55.4 percent for the game and outscored the Blazers 52-30 in the paint and the HSU bench outscored Belhaven 51-26.
Brosnan Cooks led Belhaven with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Joseph Jones had 11 points.
The Cowboys are now 4-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Belhaven fell to 1-5 and 0-2 in league action. HSU will travel to Ozarks for an ASC game at Ozarks.
