ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team saw its late rally not be enough in an 85-80 loss to Louisiana College in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Thursday night.
The Wildcats opened up a 54-39 lead with 14:25 to play in the game but the Cowboys chipped away at the deficit. HSU had a 20-8 run that cut the deficit to 62-59 with 8:57 remaining. In the run, the Cowboys received 16 of the 20 points from freshmen, including 10 by Quinton Hudson.
The Wildcats pushed the lead back to seven at 70-63 with 5:10 to play and the Cowboys came right back with seven straight points.
Jalen Terry gave the Cowboys a 79-78 lead with a 3-pointer with :57 to play, but LC outscored the Cowboys 7-1 the rest of the way.
The teams combined for 12 lead changes and seven ties in the game.
Chris Henderson led the Cowboys with 18 points, including a 5-for-10 night from 3-point range. Hudson added 14 points off the bench.
Devon Washington led the Wildcats with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Kae'ron Baker scored 10 points.
HSU is now 3-3 on the year and 0-2 in ASC action. LC improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Cowboys will host Belhaven at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
