Cowboys Roll In Home Opener

 

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team rolled over Southwestern 96-71 in the home opener on Thursday night at the Mabee Complex.

Senior Joe Hoeup set a school and American Southwest Conference record by hitting 8-for-8 behind the 3-point line and scored 32 points and Jalen Terry added 22 points and 12 rebounds.

The Cowboys jumped out to a 19-9 lead and never looked back in the win. Southwestern cut it to 33-28 with 3:59 to play in the first half but the Cowboys closed the half on a 9-2 run for a 42-30 halftime lead.

HSU quickly pushed the lead out to 61-39 early in the second half and cruised the rest of the way.

The Cowboys shot 49.3 percent in the game and hit 14-of-27 from 3-point range.

HSU (1-1) is off until Wednesday when it hosts UT Dallas at 1 p.m. in the American Southwest Conference opener.

Jake Holmes, Luke Hicks and Ryan Wheeler each had 10 points to pace the Pirates.
