ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team beat the University of the Ozarks 69-62 in American Southwest Conference action on Monday night at the Mabee Complex.
Both teams started off slow in the first half but the Cowboys' defense held the Eagles with one basket over an 8:14 period in the first half and the Cowboys went on a 14-2 run to take control of the game. HSU led 30-21 at halftime.
In the second half, HSU pushed the lead out to 54-37. Joe Hoeup had four dunks in the game and three in the knockout run. HSU still led 61-44 with 5:20 to play before the Eagles chipped away and the seven-point final margin was as close as Ozarks was the entire second half.
HSU is now 7-12 overall and 5-6 in American Southwest Conference action. Ozarks fell to 3-14 overall and 1-9 in league play. The Cowboys will play at crosstown rival McMurry on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
