ABILENE, Texas – Texas Lutheran's Nathan Josephs hit a 3-pointer as time expired to beat Hardin-Simmons 79-76 on Saturday evening at the Mabee Complex.
Keenan Holdman had tied the game at 76 with five seconds to play on a putback on a rebound and with no timeouts Josephs dribbled up across half court and hit a running 3-pointer for the win.
HSU had trailed 75-69 with 2:54 to play, but Ryan Chaney scored five straight points to cut the deficit to 75-74 with :51 to play. Marcus Ellison then blocked Alex Cage's shot with :29 to play and Chris Barrett's shot at the rim just rolled off the rim. HSU fouled Sebastian Andrade with :20 to play and he split the free throws.
Neither team led by more than six points in the first half and the Cowboys took a 41:39 at half. TLU took the lead at the 12:28 mark of the second half and led the rest of the way until Holdman's shot with five seconds remaining.
The Cowboys outscored the bigger Bulldogs 50-28 in the paint and had a 22-8 advantage in points off turnovers. TLU offset it by going 22-of-27 at the free throw line.
HSU is now 3-6 on the year and TLU improved to 3-4. HSU will play at UT-Dallas on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
