Cowboys Advance To Second Straight ASC Final
RICHARDSON, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team advanced to its second straight American Southwest Conference Championship game with a methodical 76-61 win over UT Dallas on Friday evening in Longview.

The first half was back and forth and featured eight ties and two lead changes. Ryan Leiss' lay-in at the buzzer tied the game at 32 going into halftime.

The Cowboys came out in the second half and Christian O'Neal scored the first six points and HSU led 44-37 with 16:12 to play on a Nathaniel Jack basket.

UTD then cut the deficit to 46-45 with an 8-2 run. HSU immediately pushed the lead back to nine points and led 66-56 with 4:20 to play. HSU limited the Comets two just two points in the final 4:18 of the game and pulled away. 

Jack had 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Cowboys and O'Neal had 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Hopper added 17 points and was 7-for-7 from the field.

Caleb Banks had 19 points to lead UTD and Dimitrius Underwood added 14.

The Cowboys have won six straight meetings with the Comets and have ended UTD's season the last three years in the ASC Tournament. HSU is now 21-6 overall. UTD finished the year winning nine of 10 games coming into the tournament, they close with a 12-15 overall record.

HSU will look for its second straight ASC title on Saturday at 6 p.m. against the winner of LeTourneau and Concordia.
