ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team beat Belhaven 13-6 in American Southwest Conference action at a blustery Hunter Field on Saturday afternoon.
HSU took a 1-0 lead in the first when LC starter Justin Milam walked three batters and hit another in the first inning. HSU scored on a Tyler Bradshaw sacrifice fly to make it 1-0, but a double play got Milam out of the jam.
Belhaven responded with two runs in the second. HSU regained the lead in the third on a RBI double by Bradshaw and a RBI groundout by Matthew Lillard. HSU added a run in the fifth on an RBI fielder's choice by Jacob Rains.
The Blazers added a pair of runs in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4. HSU then exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning. Bradshaw walked with the bases loaded, Brett Hudspeth had a two-run single, John Paul Tople added an RBI single and Rains had a two-run triple.
Garrison added a two-run triple for the Cowboys in the eighth inning and Belhaven scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
Tople had three hits and Rains and Bradshaw each had two hits and drove in three for the Cowboys. Benson had two hits for Belhaven.
The Cowboys are 13-13 overall and 9-6 in ASC play. Belhaven fell to 9-19 overall and 2-13 in league play. HSU will play at No. 1 Trinity on Tuesday.
