Tigers Pounce On Cowboys Early

 

ABILENE, Texas – East Texas Baptist scored eight runs in the first two innings and defeated Hardin-Simmons 14-3 in the first game of an American Southwest Conference series at Hunter Field on Friday night. 

ETBU scored four runs on five hits in the first inning. Landen Barns had the big blow a three-run double. In the second inning, Brady Faulkner added a three-run triple.

ETBU made it 12-0 in the sixth inning with four more runs. Seth Mikeska had a three-run home run to left field.

HSU scored two runs in the seventh on a two-run double by Jacob Rains and John Paul Tople had an RBI single in the eighth for HSU.

Rains had the lone two RBIs for the Cowboys. Brady Faulkner drove in four runs for the Tigers and added three hits.

Jaxon Terrell (3-3) took the loss allowing eight runs in five innings. Channing Hickman worked an inning and Clay Botello worked three hitless innings in relief.  

Derrick Findley earned the win for ETBU going the distance, scattering six hits and allowing three runs.

The Cowboys are now 6-10 on the year and 3-4 in conference play. ETBU improved to 11-7 and 4-3 in league play. The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
