SEGUIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team fell 8-3 to No. 3 Texas Lutheran on Friday night at Katt-Isbell Field in Seguin.
TLU tied the game in the fifth with an RBI single by Spencer Brandt and he later scored on a wild pitch. TLU took the lead for good in the sixth inning with four runs on four singles a walk and an error.
John Paul Tople had an RBI single in the seventh inning and Nick Gardoni added a two-run home run for the Bulldogs in the eighth inning.
Jaxon Terrell was solid for the Cowboys allowing just three hits in five and one-third innings. He allowed four runs and struck out five batters to fall to 0-2. John Clift, Channing Hickman and Chase Buchanan worked in relief. Eight different Cowboys had one hit each.
Gardoni and Brandt had two hits each for TLU. Landon Weatherley worked five and two-third innings allowing two runs on seven hits. Cody Rimko earned the win in relief.
HSU is now 1-3 and TLU improved to 4-0. The teams will play a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
