Cowboys Drop Series Finale At Ozarks


CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped the series finale at the University of the Ozarks, 10-5, on Sunday afternoon to lose the crucial series two games to one.

The Cowboys are now 11-22 overall and 8-10 in ASC play. Ozarks improved to 15-15 overall and 10-8 in league play. The teams would have been tied in the ASC standings with the Cowboys having the tiebreaker edge, if HSU had won.

Justin Crider gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead when he led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run. HSU answered with an RBI single to center in the second inning.

Ozarks answered with four runs in the bottom of the second and two more in the third and another in the fifth to push the lead out to 8-1.

The Cowboys then scored three runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit in half. John Tople had a two-run single and Taylor Cooling an RBI double, the Cowboys had another chance to add to the inning but left runners on second and third. HSU left 12 runners on base in the game and eight of those were in scoring position.

Crider added a two-run home run in the eighth inning to push the lead to 10-4. Cooling added a solo home run

Chandler Carter started for the Cowboys and took the loss to fall to 3-7 after allowing five runs in an inning and two-third of work. Garrett Buckner, Brady Roper and Eric Denby worked out of the bullpen.

A.J. Chalupka worked six innings for the win and Brady Taylor worked the final three innings for a save.

Crider and Elder had three hits each for the Eagles and Cooling had three hits to pace the Cowboys.

After a Tuesday game at Schreiner, HSU hosts UT Dallas next weekend and closes the regular season with a three-game set at McMurry.
