Cowboys Drop Pair At Texas Lutheran


SEGUIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped a doubleheader 9-2 and 9-3 on Friday at Katt-Isbell Field in Seguin.

Game 1

HSU scored a run in the bottom of the first on a Dylan Sweeney RBI single. TLU tied the game on a Cowboy error in the bottom of the inning. Brady Roper had an RBI fielder's choice for the Cowboys in the top of the second to make it 2-1.

It remained 2-1 until the fourth when the Bulldogs scored six runs. Riley Schaefer had a two-run double and Tyler Cauley a three-run home run in the inning. Ben Marvin added an RBI double in the fifth and Matthew Lemon had a solo home run in the sixth.  

Seven different Cowboys had one hit each. Riley Schaefer and Ben Marvin had two hits each for TLU and each drove in two runs.

Taylor McMackin started and took the loss to fall to 0-2 on the year. He allowed three and two earned runs in three and one-third innings. Andrew Hernandez, Eric Denby, Jordan Young and Garrett Lloyd all worked in relief.

Jacob Wieder started and allowed two earned runs for the Bulldogs in two innings. Nathan Malinovsky came on in relief and worked five scoreless innings and stuck out nine while scattering two hits to move to 1-0 on the year.

Game 2

TLU scored four runs in the bottom of the third. Tyler Cauley had a two-run double. HSU scored twice in the fourth on a two-run double by Dylan Sweeney.

The Bulldogs added three runs in the fifth on three Cowboy errors. Sweeney led off the seventh with a solo home run for the Cowboys. TLU added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Chandler Carter (0-2) took the loss allowing four runs in two and one-third innings. Hayden Clark, Hayden Day, Garrett Buckner and Taylor Cooling worked in relief.

Clint Johns (1-0) worked six and one-third innings for TLU for the win. He allowed three runs. Landon Weatherly worked the final two and one-third innings for the save.

Sweeney had three hits and drove in all three runs for the Cowboys. Marvin had two hits for TLU and Cauley drove in a pair of runs.

HSU is now 1-5 on the year and TLU improved to 9-0. HSU will open American Southwest Conference play next Friday against East Texas Baptist at Hunter Field.
