GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team lost 8-4 to LeTourneau on Sunday at AirHogs Stadium in Grand Prairie in the final game of the Jackie Moore/Rusty Greer Classic.
HSU wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Jamie Dominguez and Hunter Garrison had back-to-back singles in the bottom of the first inning and Taylor Cooling doubled to right to score Dominguez. Dylan Sweeney knocked Garrison in with an RBI groundout. John Tople followed with a sacrifice fly to score Cooling.
LeTourneau scored a pair of runs in the third inning. Gonzalo Sosa had an RBI single and he later came around to score on an error to make it 3-2. LeTourneau took the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs. Sosa had an RBI double and Josh Raies an RBI groundout.
LeTourneau added four runs in the sixth inning. Sosa had a two-run triple and one runner scored on a wild pitch and another on a passed ball.
HSU added a run in the seventh when John Tople scored from second on a throwing error.
Chandler Carter got the start for the Cowboys and he went five and one-third innings and allowed five hits and six runs (five earned) while striking out five. Eric Denby worked to three batters out of the bullpen allowing two runs.
Andrew Hernandez struck out the first four batters he faced. He finished with an inning and two-thirds of work and he struck out five. Hayden Day relieved Hernandez and retired Sosa and Bubba Valdez with the bases loaded. He then worked a scoreless ninth.
Luke Ludwig settled in for LeTourneau after a shaky first inning and worked five innings allowing six hits and three runs and struck out five to earn the win
HSU is 1-2 on the year and will travel to Texas Lutheran for a three-game series next weekend. LeTourneau improved to 2-1 on the season. Ryder Lognion worked three innings, allowing just one unearned run in relief.
