The all-time leader in four career categories for Cowgirl basketball, Kathryn Otwell helped lead HSU to national prominence at the Division III level. Otwell is the all-time leader in points (1,178), scoring average (16.9), free throws made (522), and free throws attempted (666). She is the single season leader in free throws made, with 170 during the 2000 season. Otwell was named American Southwest Conference Freshmen of the Year in 1997 and was named the ASC Most Valuable Player in 1999 and 2000. She was a First Team All- Region and All-American in 2000 when the Cowgirls beat McMurry to advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament with a 27-2 record. Following Cowgirl Basketball, Otwell played and coached for the KFI basketball club in Isafordur, Iceland.
