Gary Marable played and coached tennis for HSU, playing from 1974-76, and coaching from 1979-1981. In his second season he was named the team’s MVP going 16-6 in singles and 12-8 in doubles. Marable spent 29 years coaching in public schools with 23 years at Canyon High School. His Canyon High teams won the class 3A state tournament in 1991, 1992, and 2007. In addition, while at Canyon High, Marable coached five boys’ doubles teams, one girls’ singles player and a boys’ singles player to state championships. Coach Marable was named Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame Tennis Coach of the year 8 times during his career.
