ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Sydney Tencate won her second straight cross country meet of the young season as she ran a school-record 18:35 to win the HSU Invitational on Friday evening at Nelson Park.
Tencate lowered her time by five seconds over last week's effort at the Bill Libby Invitational. Kelsey Warren of Angelo State finished second with a time of 19:22 in the 5K race.
The Cowgirls finished fourth as a team. Ranger College won the race with a score of 49 to outdistance Angelo State by two points. Texas Lutheran was third with a 71, HSU had a 79 for fourth, Odessa College was fifth with a 120, the University of Dallas finished sixth with a 127 and Sul Ross State finished with a score of 207.
Lauren Robson finished 10th overall for the Cowgirls with a time of 20:34. Kaitlyn Garcia was 21st with a time of 21:54 and Emily Olguin was right behind her with a 21:59. Yulissa Rios ran a 22:31. Yadira Loera ran a 23:12 and Katlynn Nichols finished with a 24:14.
Olguin had the biggest jump for the Cowgirls with a :38 improvement over last week.
HSU will run in ACU's Naimadu Classic on Sept. 16 in its next action.
