TYLER, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the first day of the Dakotas Patriot Classic in Tyler on Friday.
The Cowgirls took a tough loss in the first match of the day. HSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead before dropping the final three games to fall to undefeated Rhodes, 14-25, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20, 17-15.
HSU had a balanced attack against the Lynx as six different players had at least five kills. Morgan Prince had 10 kills.
Defensively, the Cowgirls had four players with 20 or more digs in the match. Mary Johnson led the way with 34, Myra Carrion had 28, Allison Kuster had 22 and Ashley Pierce added 20. Pierce added 23 assists to notch her second double-double of the season.
Against Texas Lutheran in the second match of the day, the Cowgirls fell 25-22, 26-24, 13-25, 25-12.
Prince again led the offense with 11 kills and Carrion paced the defense with 19 digs. Pierce had 18 assists and Rebekah Hayes added 14 assists for the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls are now 2-4 on the season. Rhodes is now 5-0 on the year and TLU improved to 3-3. HSU will play Hendrix at 10 a.m. on Saturday and follow that with a 2 p.m. game against Birmingham Southern to close out the weekend's action.
