Cowgirls Fall in ASC Final in Fifth Game
ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons’ volleyball team pushed
undefeated and No. 10 Texas-Dallas to five games but fell 14-25,
25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 15-6 in the American Southwest Conference
Championship match Saturday afternoon at the UTD Activity
Center.
HSU came out and dominated the first game winning by a 25-14
count. Kaela Parnell had six kills in the game for the Cowgirls.
UTD took control with a pair of relatively easy wins in games two
and three.
The Cowgirls jumped out to a 24-19 lead in the fourth game and
held on to push the match into a fifth game. In the fifth game it
was all UTD as they jumped to a 9-1 lead and never looked back.
Parnell led the Cowgirls with 18 kills and Diona Massey and
Madison Reyes each had 13 kills for the Cowgirls. Parnell had six
blocks for HSU. Sam Lucien had 25 assists and Erin Davis had 22
assists. Defensively, Gracen Harris had 20 digs and Lucien and
Fowler each had 19.
Kyleigh Irisih had 17 kills and 20 digs for UT-Dallas.
It was a great season for the Cowgirls, who finished its season
with a record of 22-7. UTD improved to 25-0 on the year. The match
was the final one in the outstanding careers of Kaela Parnell, Sam
Lucien and Chelsie Fowler.
