Cowgirls Clinch ASC West Title

KERRVILLE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’
volleyball team wrapped up its regular season by defeating
Schreiner 21-25, 25-23, 28-26, 23-25, 15-10 in American Southwest
Conference action at Mountaineer Gym in Kerrville.
The Cowgirls claimed the American Southwest Conference West
Division title and a first round bye in the ASC Tournament. The
Cowgirls will play the winner of the McMurry/East Texas Baptist
match in the semifinals of the tournament on Friday evening at
UT-Dallas in Richardson.
HSU senior Kaela Parnell closed her regular-season career in style
with 20 kills. Madison Reyes added 17 kills and Chelsie Fowler had
a double-double with 13 kills and 21 digs. Gracen Harris had a
season-best 31 digs in the match.
Sam Lucien had 31 assists and nine digs and Erin Davis had 19
assists and 13 digs in the match. Schreiner actually out hit the
Cowgirls in the match .176 to .153. Kaycee Westberry had 14 kills
to pace Schreiner.
HSU is now 21-6 on the season and finished the year 16-2 in ASC
play. Schreiner fell to 17-12 overall and 11-7 in ASC play. If they
had won the match they would have claimed an ASC tournament
berth.
