Cowgirls Win Eighth Straight

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team cruised to another American Southwest Conference win with a 25-16, 25-17, 24-26, 25-22 win over Howard Payne on Tuesday night at the Brownwood Coliseum.
The Cowgirls improved to 17-5 overall with the win and to 14-2 in ASC action. Howard Payne fell to 8-15 overall and 6-9 in ASC action.
HSU jumped out to easy wins in the first game and had the lead in the third game, before HPU rallied to win the game. It was the first time the Cowgirls had dropped a set in their last nine ASC West matches.
In the fourth game, HPU led 20-18, but the Cowgirls tightened the defense and moved out to a 22-20 lead. HPU scored two straight points to tie the set at 22, but a kill by Chelsie Fowler, an assisted block between Fowler and Kaela Parnell followed by a Fowler kill ended the set.
Madison Reyes led the Cowgirl offense with a career-best 18 kills. Fowler had 15 kills and Parnell added 12 kills. Defensively, Gracen Harris led the Cowgirls with 24 digs. Sam Lucien had 35 assists.
HSU has now won eight straight matches overall. The Cowgirls lead the ASC West by two games with just two league matches remaining. HSU will step out of ASC play for the Austin College Tournament this weekend.
