Cowgirls Drop Pair At UTD Tournament

RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team dropped a pair of tough matches in the second day of the Gilbert Memorial Tournament at UT-Dallas, the Cowgirls fell to the host 25-18, 25-22, 25-18 and fell in five games to East Texas Baptist, 25-23, 11-25, 19-25, 26-24, 16-14.
Of the nine games the Cowgirls lost in the tournament, six of them were by two or three points. HSU finished the season-opening tournament with a record of 1-3.
Against UT-Dallas, Kalea Parnell, Cambra Hughes and Chelsie Fowler had six kills each for the Cowgirls. Sam Lucien led a balanced defense with 17 digs.
In the match against ETBU, Parnell and Hughes each had 11 kills and Fowler and Lucien had 17 and 14 digs, respectively. The teams were evenly matched as the Tigers hit .232 for the match and HSU hit .233.
HSU will return next weekend when it travels to Atlanta for the Emory Invitational.
