Cowgirls Win Eighth Straight Against McMurry

ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team won its 15th straight home match with a 25-20, 27-25, 21-25, 25-4 win over McMurry Wednesday night in front of a record crowd of 1,238 people at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls improved to 11-6 overall and 8-1 in American Southwest Conference action and McMurry fell to 12-6 overall and 6-4 in league play. The win was the eighth straight for HSU in the crosstown series.

HSU took control of game one midway through and cruised to a 25-20 win. In the second game the Cowgirls hung tough after McMurry used a 4-0 rally to tie the game at 22-22. The Cowgirls scored the last two points of the game for the win.

In game three, McMurry used a strong attack that featured four kills each from Terah Brown and Molly Fuston to edge past the Cowgirls and gain momentum.

That momentum was short lived as HSU jumped out to an 8-0 lead and eventually led 20-3 in the final game. HSU hit .364 in the game and for the match hit .245 compared to .080 for McMurry.

Chelsie Fowler had her best match as a Cowgirl with a double-double. She had 12 kills and 13 digs. Kaela Parnell had 12 kills and Cambra Hughes added 10 for HSU. The defense for the Cowgirls was great as Gracen Harris had 27 digs in the match and Amanda Mace had 18.

Both setters for the Cowgirls had double-doubles as Kayla Dotson had 24 assists and 10 digs and Erin Davis had 14 assists and 10 digs.

McMurry was led by Erica Engilsh's nine kills and Terah Brown added eight. Danielle Kelton had 19 digs.

The Cowgirls will play at Concordia on Friday night at 7 p.m.
