

Cowgirls Split at ASC Championship
SEGUIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball season came to an end on Friday when it lost to UT-Dallas in the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship in Seguin. The Cowgirls won in five games over UT-Tyler in the first game of the day.
In the first game of the day against UT-Tyler the Cowgirls had to rally for the win, 25-7, 25-27, 23-25, 25-16, 19-17. HSU could not rally against UT-Dallas falling, 25-22, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23.
HSU came out and dominated the first game, but dropped the next two. HSU rebounded to win game four in convincing fashion. In the fifth game, the Cowgirls had to rally again. HSU was down 8-6 and tied it 8-8, then was down 10-8 and rallied to make it 10-10, UTT made it 12-10 and HSU came back to tie it at 12-12.
UTT then went up 14-12 and the Cowgirls rolled off three straight points to take a 15-14 lead and then after UTT made it 17-16 Cambra Hughes had three straight kills to close out the match.
Kaela Parnell led three players in double digit kills for the Cowgirls with 14. Hughes had 12 and Chelsie Fowler had 11 to go with 16 digs for a double-double. Sam Lucien had 18 digs and freshman Kayla Dotson had a double-double with 18 assists and 10 digs.
In the second match against UT-Dallas, the Comets came out on top in the first two games but HSU ramped up its defense and held the Comets to .070 hitting, while hitting .265. Cambra Hughes had five kills in the game.
The Cowgirls battled back from a 16-9 deficit to tie the fourth game at 22-22 and it was 23 all when UTD won the final two points to win the match.
Hughes had 15 kills in the match and Parnell had 10. Erin Davis had 24 assists and 12 digs. Gracen Harris had 13 digs.
HSU closes its season with a record of 20-12. It is the second straight year that the Cowgirls have won 20 matches, marking the first time since 1988 and 1989 that HSU has accomplished that feat.
