Cowgirls Split at Texas Lutheran

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team split an American Southwest Conference doubleheader, winning the first game 1-0 and falling 5-4 on Saturday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field in Brownwood.
In the first game, the Cowgirls received a complete-game shutout from freshman Laura Rawlings. She scattered five hits in the win.
The Cowgirls scored the only run of the game in the sixth inning. Sadye Hill had a one-out walk and she was pinch ran for by Christina Huett. Cricket Criner followed with a double to right center to score Huett.
In the nightcap, Courtney Clark led off the game with a double and she scored on a Sadye Hill single. HPU responded with an unearned run in the bottom of the first to tie it.
It remained 1-1 until the fourth when HPU scored four runs on five hits. HSU came right back with three runs in the fifth inning. Criner had an RBI single, Lydia Bradley had an RBI single and Heather Cobb had an RBI groundout.
Lacie Cole took the loss for the Cowgirls in the circle. Hill had three hits for the Cowgirls.
HSU is now 16-14 on the year and 10-10 in league play. Howard Payne improved to 23-13 overall and 14-6 in league play. The Cowgirls will close their season next weekend at home against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
