Cowgirls Drop Close Game In Alpine

ALPINE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team fell 2-1 to Sul Ross State on Saturday at Lady Lobo Field in Alpine in American Southwest Conference action.

The Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an Amanda Tokunaga RBI single to center. Sul Ross State scored their two runs in the fourth inning on a fielding error and an RBI single by Alex Castellanos.

Gabby Ortega went the distance and fell to 0-7 on the year. She allowed two runs (both unearned) on nine hits. Jackie Gonzalez tossed a two-hitter to improve to 5-1 on the year.

Cierra Woodyard and Tokunaga had the Cowgirls' hits. Alex Castellanos and Gabriela Raimondi  had two hits each for the Lobos.

The Cowgirls are now 0-11 on the year and 0-6 in ASC play. Sul Ross State improved to 8-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play. HSU will host Belhaven next weekend.
