Cowgirls Close SB Season

LEWISVILLE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' staved off elimination one game on Friday, but fell 8-0 to Mississippi College to be eliminated from the American Southwest Conference Tournament on Friday evening at Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park. 

The Cowgirls managed just two hits as HSU lost to MC for the second straight day. Kim Mason went the distance and struck out six to move to 12-4 on the year.

Megann Lewis, pitching her second game of the day, allowed six earned runs on nine hits in four and one-third innings. She finished her Cowgirl career with a 13-10 mark in the circle on the year. Sarah Shurbet worked one and one-third innings and allowed four hits and one run. 

Taylor Namey and Jodi Hierholzer had the only hits for HSU. Five different players had at least two hits for Mississippi College.

Morgan Harpole had an RBI double in the second inning and MC got an RBI single by Smithermann in the fourth. MC opened the game up with five runs on five hits and three HSU errors in the fifth. 

HSU closes its first season under Dan Sheppard with a record of 24-19. MC advances to play UT-Tyler in an elimination game at 11 a.m. on Saturday. MC is now 32-12.

It was the final game for five Cowgirl seniors: Lewis, Hierholzer, Laura Rawlings, Cera Beasley and Kelsey Cogdell.
