HSU Set For Championship Week

ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' men's and women's soccer and volleyball teams will all play for American Southwest Conference championships this weekend at locations around the state.
The women's soccer team (13-3-3) will be looking for its sixth straight American Southwest Conference title in a row, when it hosts the tournament at the HSU Soccer Complex. The Cowgirls have a first round by and will play its first game at 11 a.m. on Saturday against the winner of Mary Hardin-Baylor and UT-Tyler.
UT-Dallas (13-3-3) is the second seed and receives a first-round bye. Mississippi College (16-3) will be the No. 3 seed and the University of Texas at Tyler (13-3-1), which reached the title game last year, is seeded fourth. Mary Hardin-Baylor (10-7) is the No. 5 seed, while Texas Lutheran (9-9) secured the sixth seed after a tie-breaker.
Friday's first-round matchups will be UT Tyler against UMHB at 11 a.m., with the winner getting HSU in Saturday's 11 a.m. semifinal. MC and TLU will duel on Friday at 1:30 p.m., with the victor going against UTD at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in the semifinals. The championship game is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Cowboy soccer team will travel to Tyler for its tournament, looking for the seventh ASC Tournament title in school history. The Cowboys are 10-5-4 on the year and are the second seed in the tournament and will receive a first round bye. UTT (10-3-3) is the top seed in the tournament.
HSU won the second seed because of a tie-breaker with No. 3 seed and defending ASC champion University of Texas at Dallas (11-5-2). Both HSU and UTD totaled 29 points with 9-2-2 marks in league play.
Mississippi College (11-3-3) will be the No. 4 seed after getting the tie-breaker edge over fifth seed and 2003 ASC champion University of the Ozarks (13-3-3). MC and UO each went 8-3-2 in ASC action. Texas Lutheran (8-6-3) secured the No. 6 seed after a tie-breaker advantage.

The Cowgirl volleyball team will travel to Seguin looking for its second ASC title. The Cowgirls (19-11) are the second seed out of the ASC West and will play UT Tyler in the first round at noon on Friday.
Defending champion Texas Lutheran (20-7) is the host school and the No. 1 seed in the West. McMurry (19-7) is the third seed out of the West.
UT Dallas (22-7) is the top seed out of the East division and will also receive a bye. East Texas Baptist (22-8) and UT Tyler (13-16) are the second and third seed out of the East.
Friday's matchups will be HSU against UT Tyler in the first round at noon, with the winner facing UTD in the semifinals at 5 p.m. ETBU and McMurry will square off in first-round action on the bracket's other side at 2:30 p.m., with the victor getting TLU at 7:30 p.m. The championship match is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.
