Kessler, Parrish Take Home Top ASC Awards

Kessler, Parrish Take Home Top ASC Awards

RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' Kenne Kessler and Kirsten Parrish were named the American Southwest Conference offensive and defensive players of the year in a vote of the league's head coaches.

The Cowgirls rolled through the American Southwest Conference this season, outscoring opponents 75-3, and winning the conference tournament for the 15th straight year.

Kessler set a new American Southwest Conference record with 35 goals on the year. She becomes the 11th different Cowgirl to be named offensive player of the year and they have done it a total of 15 times.

Parrish repeats as the ASC defensive player of the year. She led a Cowgirl defense that allowed just four goals on the year and teams averaged under five shots per game against them. She also scored 12 goals on the year and added seven assists. She is the 10th Cowgirl to win the award and they have won a total of 13 awards.

Both were also named first-team all-ASC. They were joined on the first team by teammates Kendell Groom, a sophomore defender, and Josey Meyer, a junior midfielder. Meyer leads the nation in assists with 21 and Groom is a big part of that defensive back line.

Junior midfielder Sarah Krisa, goalkeeper Caitlin Christiansen and senior defender Tiffany Van Hoose were all named to the second team.
