Cowgirls Roll In ASC Opener

LONGVIEW, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ women’s
soccer team opened the defense of its American Southwest Conference
title with a 7-0 win over LeTourneau on Friday afternoon in
Longivew.
The Cowgirls moved its ASC unbeaten streak to 108 in a row with the
convincing win. HSU outshot LeTourneau 26-1 in the game and 17-1 on
goal.
It did not take the Cowgirls long to get on the board as the
freshmen duo of Katie Kuykendall and Austin Ricker hooked up on a
goal. Kuykendall found Ricker just three minutes into the game. At
the 21:08 mark Kuykendall scored a goal on a Taylor Thigpen assist.
Erin Low made it 3-0 with a goal off a good cross to the near post
from Mickey Rogers at the 42:16 mark.
Thigpen then scored a goal in the 66th minute. Rogers added a pair
of goals in the 81st and 85th minutes and Jordan Morley scored off
an Allison Ray cross at the 87:13 mark.
The win was the Cowgirls fourth in a row to improve them to 4-1 on
the year and 1-0 in ASC play. LeTourneau fell to 1-3 on the year
and 0-1 in league play. HSU will play at East Texas Baptist on
Saturday afternoon.
