Carr Named ASC Defensive Player of the Year

RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons junior goalkeeper Christi Carr was named the American Southwest Conference defensive player of the year, head coach Marcus Wood was named the ASC coach of the year and six other Cowgirls were honored by the ASC in postseason awards that were voted on by the coaches in the league.

Carr did not allow a goal to a conference team this season and she ranks 10^th in the nation in goals against average. The junior from Pleasonton was named first-team all-ASC for the third straight year.

Wood was named the ASC coach of the year for the fifth time in his career.

Senior forward Morgan Loyd, freshman midfielder Megan Ryan, sophomore sweeper Sarah Stansell, and sophomore midfielder Carlyn Powers were all named first-team all-ASC. Sophomore forward Amy Kuykendall was named to the second team and junior forward Jordan Morley was named third team.

The Cowgirls increased their ASC unbeaten streak to 107 matches this season after going 12-0-1 in ASC play. HSU is 15-3-3 overall and won its sixth straight ASC title. HSU will play in the NCAA Tournament this weekend at Redlands University.
