Cowgirls In Fifth

TEMPLE, Texas -

Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team is in fifth place after the first round of the UMHB Fall Invitational, which is being played on the par-72, 5,820-yard layout at Wildflower Country Club in Temple.

 

Tyler Junior College leads the event with a first round 321. Western Texas shot a 331, Southwestern University shot 334 and UT-Brownsville fired a 338. HSU is in second place among Division III teams.

 

HSU freshman Ashley Luecke shot a 77 and is two stokes out of the lead. She is coming off a win in her first collegiate tournament. Whitney Mitchell shot a 90, Caitlin Raymond a 92, DeLane Griffith a 95 and Heather Hambrick shot a 98 to round out the lineup.

 

Bethany Hartsfield shot a 97 and Kendra Lafayette fired a 114 playing as individuals for the Cowgirls.

 

The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday.
