RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team saw its season come to a close with an 86-56 loss to UT Dallas on Thursday evening in the American Southwest Conference Tournament at the UTD Activity Center.
UTD opened an early 15-7 lead but the Cowgirls scored the last four points of the quarter, including a Ryan Bush 3-pointer with :03 to play to cut the deficit to 15-11.
The Comets opened the game up in the second quarter and led 31-24 at halftime. Danie Mabry and Taylor Gaffney each hit a 3-pointer early in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 35-32. UTD then exploded on a 26-8 run to push the lead to 61-40 after three quarters.
Mabry led the Cowgirls with 19 points. Taylor Gaffney scored 11 points before fouling out early in the fourth quarter. Madison Steele led the Comets with 26 points. Raenett Hughes chipped in 13 points.
HSU finishes the season with a record of 6-20. UTD improved to 23-3 and will play East Texas Baptist in the ASC Semifinal on Friday.
