ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team fell 62-61 to Texas Lutheran in non-conference action on Saturday evening at the Mabee Complex.
TLU jumped to an early 17-9 lead in the first quarter before the Cowgirls scored the final six points of the quarter to cut it to 17-15. HSU took the lead when Jasmine McClellan hit a 3-pointer with 4:55 to play in the first half to make it 24-23. HSU held the lead at halftime 30-26.
The Cowgirls pushed the lead out to 39-30 on a Taylor Seastrunk jumper with 7:03 to play in the third quarter. The Bulldogs chipped away at the lead and HSU's advantage was trimmed to 44-42 after three quarters.
Madyson Garcia hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and the final one gave the Bulldogs a 61-58 lead with 1:10 to play. Cami Davis gave TLU a 62-59 lead when she split a pair of free throws with :11 to play.
HSU had a chance to tie as Danie Mabry was fouled shooting a 3-pointer with 1.8 to play but she missed the first free throw before making the final two and the Cowgirls lost 62-61.
Mabry led the Cowgirls with 23 points and hit 5-of-10 3-pointers in the game. Garcia had 17 to pace TLU and Davis also hit double figures with 15 points and she added nine assists and five steals.
The Cowgirls are 3-5 on the year and Texas Lutheran improved to 3-6. HSU will play at Texas-Dallas on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
