Cowboys Finish Fourth At ASC Championship


ROUND ROCK, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's cross country team finished fourth at the American Southwest Conference Championship on Saturday morning at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

UT Tyler won the event for the eighth straight year. The Patriots had a team score of 52. UT Dallas was second with 86 points and McMurry was third with 92. The Cowboys finished fourth with 100 points and Ozarks was fifth with 126. East Texas Baptist, LeTourneau, Sul Ross State, Concordia and Belhaven rounded out the field.

A.J. Tillman led the Cowboys with a ninth-place finish to claim second-team all-ASC honors. He ran a 27:17 in the 8K race. Ben Splain finished 11th overall with a time of 27:24. Both will advance to the regional meet.

River Smith placed 23rd with a time of 28:11 and Sammy Magallen was 25th with a time of 28:17. Nathan McEndree was 34th with a time of 28:58 to round out the top five scorers for the Cowboys.

Richard Denton was 41st with a time of 29.10. Dakota Patridge was 53rd with a time of 28:52. Jordan Starr-Lopez ran a 30:18.

Freshman Nathaneal Rankin of Ozarks won the race with a time of 26:41, six seconds ahead of Michael Harris.

The regional meet will be on Nov. 11 in Newport Beach, Va.
