Cowboys Streak Comes To an End

TYLER, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's tennis team six-year run as American Southwest Conference Champions and its 69-match ASC winning streak came to an end on Sunday as the Cowboys fell 5-0 to UT-Tyler in the ASC Championship match.
The Cowboys fell behind 3-0 after doubles play. Ryan Waters and Wade Morgan lost 8-3 at No. 1 doubles to David Ashlock and Dustin Phillips. Justin Lockaby and Andy Cairens fell 8-4 to Robert Sajovich, 8-4 and Todd Henington and Stephen Salazar fell 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Daniel Moore, who was fighting a stomach virus all weekend, gave it a go at No. 3 singles but lost 6-0, 6-0. Phillips defeated Waters at No. 1 single 6-1, 6-4 to end the match. Justin Lockaby was the only Cowboy to win their first set of the match in singles play.
The loss ends the Cowboys season with a record of 12-7 and UT Tyler improved to 17-6. The Patriots earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament with win. It also ended the careers of Waters, Morgan and Lockaby.
