RICHARDSON, Texas - Senior goalkeeper Ryan Shaughnessy was named the American Southwest Conference men's soccer defensive player of the year and four Cowboys were named to the first-team All-ASC team, in voting done by the league's coaches.

 

Shaughnessy won the award after being named the preseason ASC defensive player of the year. He had a 0.88 goals against average and led the Cowboys to the ASC title. Aaron Erickson of East Texas Baptist was named the offensive player of the year.

 

Junior forward David Salas, junior defender Brad Barham, Shaughnessy and sophomore midfielder Nick Sager were the Cowboys representatives on the first team.

 

Junior Ryan Flanigan and senior defender Trevor Elza were named to the second-team and Jacob Almack was named honorable mention as a midfielder.

 

Schreiner University head coach Paul Hayes was named ASC Coach of the Year after leading the Mountaineers to a second straight ASC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament appearance where they advanced to the semifinals.

 

The Cowboys are 13-4-2 on the year and won the ASC Championship. They will play at Trinity on Wednesday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
