Dan Heger came to Hardin-Simmons as a player for his senior
season in 1979 when he was captain and led the team to a No. 3
ranking in the Midwest Region as a Division I team. He remained
associated with the program on some level since then, even sending
players to Hardin-Simmons even when he was a coach at the high
school level.
Heger is now in his eighth season as the Cowboys’ head coach
and he is the school’s all-time wins leader with a record of
81-43-18. He has led the Cowboys to three American Southwest
Conference titles and in 2009 he lead the Cowboys to the Sweet 16,
becoming the first ASC team to reach that level of the NCAA
Tournament.
He and wife Cylinda, who is also a Hardin-Simmons graduate, have
been married for 27 years. They have two children Harrison, who is
17 and a senior at Wylie High School and Hannah, who is 15 and a
sophomore at Wylie.
Heger is committed to the positive difference a Hardin-Simmons
education can make in the life of a soccer player.
