ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team will head to Belton this week looking to add to its American Southwest Conference record of nine ASC tournament titles.
The Cowboys go into the tournament as the No. 6 seed and will open play at 8 p.m. on Thursday against UT Dallas (10-5-2). The two teams played to a scoreless draw in their only meeting this year on Oct. 12 in Richardson. HSU and UTD played for the ASC title a year ago as well with the Comets coming out on top, 2-0.
HSU is 21-8-3 all-time in the ASC Tournament and its 19 appearances are the most in league history. UTD is second with 16 tournament appearances. HSU won the ASC Tournament in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2013 and 2014. HSU has qualified for 15 straight tournaments.
For the season, the Cowboys are 5-6-2 on the year. The Cowboys have relied on a stingy defense this season as they have allowed only 12 goals on the year.
