LONGVIEW, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team remained in the hunt for a first round bye in the American Southwest Conference Tournament with a 2-0 win over LeTourneau on Friday night in ASC action at LETU Field.

Jio Gonzalez put the Cowboys on the board in the 22nd minute when he scored off a Jacob Gonzales assist.

Gonzalez added another goal in the 54th minute off a Ben Matthews assist. Gonzalez is now tied with Cole Johnson for the team lead in goals with five.

Michael Vargas worked a shutout in goal for the Cowboys. It was his 27th career shutout.

HSU had a 21-14 advantage in shots, including a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.

The Cowboys are now 8-3-2 on the year and 6-1-2 in ASC play and have moved to second in the ASC standings. They will be the No. 2 seed in the ASC Tournament with a win over East Texas Baptist on Saturday evening.

LeTourneau fell to 5-10-2 on the year and 2-7 in ASC play.
