GEORGETOWN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Southwestern on Saturday evening at Varsity Fields in Georgetown.
The defensive contest saw the two teams combine for just eight shots on the night, with HSU having a 5-3 advantage.
Michael Vargas had three saves to record the 24th shutout of his career.
HSU is 1-2 on the year and Southwestern fell to 1-3. The Pirates have lost three matches 1-0 to American Southwest Conference teams in the past week.
The Cowboys will be home for the first time next weekend when it host Texas-Tyler at 4:30 on Friday in the ASC opener.
