Cowboys Earn First Round Bye

LONGVIEW, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team beat LeTourneau 2-1 on Saturday evening to earn a first round bye in next week's American Southwest Conference Tournament.

HSU started the season 0-3-2 and 0-1-1 in ASC action, but the Cowboys turned the season around and went 10-1-1 the rest of the way, including 10-1 in ASC play. HSU finished the regular season with a record of 10-4-3 and 10-2-1 in conference action. 

The Cowboys got on the board first against LeTourneau as Chris Hunter found John Anumu for a goal in the 24th minute.

HSU added to the lead in the 51st minute when Matt Pitcock found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. 

LeTourneau scored in the 73rd minute on a David Follingstad goal. The Cowboys held off a late LeTourneau charge for the victory.

Logan Waters won the game in goal for the Cowboys with four saves. HSU outshot the Yellowjackets 12-9 and each team had five shots on goal. There were a combined 41 fouls called in the physical contest. 

LeTourneau is now 6-9-2 overall and 6-5 in ASC action.

The bracket for the ASC Tournament will be announced on Sunday, but HSU will play on Saturday at UT-Tyler.
